How to store filaments
Humidity and UV light can decrease the filament quality and weaken its mechanical properties. We strongly recommend storing open filaments in a dry and dark place. You can find a complete guide on how to properly store your filament here
Where to throw print fails and supports?
We kindly ask our customers to cope with plastic waste responsibly. Failed prints, support material, rafts, or brims should be liquidated according to the local guidelines. Paradoxically, in most cases, it is better to throw this waste in the regular trash can, as most of the material waste created in 3D printing is not identified, which causes more problems than benefits in the waste sorting facilities.
TPU 96 | Filament-PM
Filament PM’s TPU96 is a cutting-edge thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) filament that combines exceptional flexibility with durability, making it ideal for a wide range of industrial and hobby applications. From protective covers and RC model parts to flexible joints and seals, TPU96 offers the versatility needed for projects requiring both resilience and elasticity. It also features excellent vibration damping and shock absorption capabilities.
Designed for reliable performance, TPU96 adheres well to commonly used print beds, ensuring stability throughout the printing process. However, due to its tendency to absorb moisture, it is essential to dry the filament periodically to maintain its optimal printing properties.
With the ability to stretch more than five times its original length before breaking, TPU96 excels in applications that demand high elasticity. Another notable feature is its chemical resistance, providing excellent protection against hydrolysis and microorganisms. However, TPU96 has lower resistance to strong acids and specific solvents, such as acetone and toluene.
The filament produces prints with a glossier and smoother surface compared to TPE, making it a superior choice when surface aesthetics are crucial. For optimal results, we recommend a nozzle temperature of 245°C, a bed temperature of 50°C, and a maximum print speed of 35 mm/s. The flexibility and hardness of the printed parts can be adjusted by varying the infill density—lower infill density results in more flexible parts, while higher infill increases stiffness.
TPU96 also offers enhanced heat resistance with a Vicat softening temperature of 128°C, significantly higher than TPE’s 110°C. This higher thermal stability makes TPU96 suitable for more demanding applications where resistance to elevated temperatures is crucial.
TPU96 enables the rapid and efficient production of small-volume industrial rubber components, making it an excellent choice for custom one-off products or quick manufacturing of industrial parts.
General information about TPU :
TPU or thermoplastic polyurethane is a common flexible material often confused with TPE. TPU is a type of TPE. Recently, “TPU”, both as a term and as a material, has been gaining popularity over “TPE”. In today’s 3D printing scene, most flexible offerings are TPU-based materials, with TPE having fallen largely out of favor due to difficulties faced while printing. There are different versions of TPU material but in the main, it can be classed into two types. Firstly known as Polyether Polyurethane and secondly Polyester Polyurethane. Both have different characteristics that can be suited to a specific need.
Printability of TPU filament
TPU filaments are claimed to have a better printability than TPE filaments. Still, you need to take similar preventive measures as with TPE. The best results when printing with TPU will be seen when printing with a slow and consistent speed. As TPU has a high level of elasticity, it can mean that any sudden changes can cause a loss of control in the print speed. Fast print speeds can result in the filament compressing and will lead to a jam. Concluding: slow and steady is the best approach to take when printing TPU. The recommended printing speed is 5-40 mm/s (higher for harder filaments, lower for softer materials).
TPU mechanical and thermal properties
In certain blends, it can become very soft, but TPU material offers many benefits and features. 3D printed parts with TPU are durable and have the ability to withstand ambient temperatures of up to 80 degrees Celsius. TPU is very elastic ranging from 600 to 700%. It has increased chemical resistance to oils and greases. It also has an excellent interlayer adhesion and no curling or delamination during the 3D printing process.

Filament-PM is a Czech filament manufacturer with a wide and still growing range of materials, from everyday PLA and PETG to flame-retardant, ESD and fibre-reinforced engineering grades. It suits beginners and professionals alike. JustCreate3D keeps a large selection of Filament-PM in stock in its warehouse in Senec, Slovakia, and dispatches orders quickly.
Filament-PM was among the first producers of 3D printer filament, starting back in 2013. It is an official partner of PRUSA Manufacturing: the printed parts of the Prusa MK2 and MK3 printers were made from Filament-PM PETG. Today eight production lines run day and night. The company also watches its ecological footprint – its factory runs on renewable energy and it produces recycled filament from its own plastic waste.
