How to store filaments

Humidity and UV light can decrease the filament quality and weaken its mechanical properties. We strongly recommend storing open filaments in a dry and dark place. You can find a complete guide on how to properly store your filament here

Where to throw print fails and supports?

We kindly ask our customers to cope with plastic waste responsibly. Failed prints, support material, rafts, or brims should be liquidated according to the local guidelines. Paradoxically, in most cases, it is better to throw this waste in the regular trash can, as most of the material waste created in 3D printing is not identified, which causes more problems than benefits in the waste sorting facilities.

Flexfill TPE 90A | Fillamentum

Flexfill TPE 90A is a flexible filament based on a polyolefinic thermoplastic elastomer base featuring a hardness of 90 Shore A (equivalent to 30 Shore D). This filament is safe for food-contact applications and for applications in contact with skin.

It has excellent wear resistance qualities, ensuring the long-term durability of 3D printed objects. Because of its chemical resistance to acids, alcohols, alkalis, and water, this filament is a good choice for making custom sealings used at higher temperatures. The gas permeability of this material is likewise exceptionally low.

Other features:

  • Dimensional stability
  • Smooth matte finish
  • Pleasant to touch
  • Tear strength, abrasion resistance
  • Chemical resistance against acids, alcohols, alkalis, and water
  • Resistant against dirt, washable
  • Recyclable
  • BPA-free
  • Low odor
  • Safe to use in electrical and electronic equipment

This material is susceptible to stress whitening because of its chemical nature. Microcracks are commonly caused by stress-induced impact or tension. A heat gun can be used to partially remove this effect. Limit the bending of the printed object if possible. Flexfill TPU or Flexfill PEBA 90A is better for dynamically stressed parts. The whitening effect has no effect on the filament's functionality

General information about TPE :

TPE, or thermoplastic elastomer, is a category of rubber-like plastics that are great for printing anything that needs impact or vibration resistance, non-slip characteristics, or just plain old flexibility. We recommend starting printing flexible materials with a harder material like 32 Shore D. The printing experience with TPE and TPU is very individual. Some claim better experience with TPE some with TPU.

TPE mechanical and thermal properties

TPE is flexible and soft with an excellent fatigue resistance. Compared to TPU, TPE has a more "rubbery" surface, TPU is more "greasy". TPE has a high impact strength and good tear and abrasion resistance. It is resistant to low and high temperatures (-30 to +140 °C).

Printability of TPE filament

The best results when printing with TPE will be seen when printing with a slow and consistent speed. As TPE has a high level of elasticity, it can mean that any sudden changes can cause a loss of control in the print speed. Fast print speeds can result in the filament compressing and will lead to a jam. Concluding: slow and steady is the best approach to take when printing TPE. The recommended printing speed is 5-40 mm/s (higher for harder filaments, lower for softer materials).

Challenges

TPEs have the problem of being poorly handled by extruders owing to their softness. As TPEs are hygroscopic, they absorb moisture. As a result, prints will pop up and sizzle if the filament isn’t stored properly. Being flexible, TPE has a tendency to buckle or squeeze through any gaps in the filament path. Make sure this path is well-constrained, with no gaps or obstacles. Towards this end, a direct-drive style extruder is recommended.

Fillamentum

Fillamentum is a Czech manufacturer of premium 3D printing filaments, known for a very wide colour range and unique shades. It is a favourite of makers who care about the look of their prints, and it also offers technical materials such as CPE, nylon and flexible grades. JustCreate3D keeps a broad Fillamentum selection in stock in its warehouse in Senec, Slovakia, and dispatches orders quickly.

Based in Czechia, Fillamentum is one of the trendsetters of the 3D printing material industry. It exports to more than 62 countries and has more than 15 years of experience in plastics processing. Its filaments come on transparent spools, so you can always see how much material is left.

Who is Fillamentum for?

Choose PLA Extrafill when colour and surface quality matter – for models, prototypes and decorations. CPE HG100 is a tougher, easy-to-print alternative to PETG for functional parts. The Flexfill range covers flexible parts from soft to semi-rigid, and the nylon grades suit wear-resistant mechanical parts; remember to dry nylon before printing.

Frequently asked questions

Where is Fillamentum made?

Fillamentum is a Czech brand. Its filaments are exported to more than 62 countries around the world.

What is CPE HG100?

CPE is a copolyester related to PETG. It was developed for users who want more toughness than PETG while keeping easy printing with no warping.

Which Flexfill should I choose?

The number in the name is the Shore hardness: the lower the number, the softer and more elastic the part. Flexible filaments print best slowly, ideally with a direct-drive extruder.
