+421 915 509 416support@justcreate3d.comWood filaments look and feel like wood but print on any ordinary FDM printer. They are PLA-based, so they suit beginners as well as designers who want natural-looking decorations, models and gifts. We stock three different approaches in our warehouse in Senec, Slovakia: Fillamentum Timberfill® with real spruce fibres, Filament-PM WoodJet with bamboo powder and Polymaker PolyWood™, a foamed PLA without any wood.
Properties
- Timberfill® – biopolymers filled with 15 % natural spruce fibres; feels, smells and looks like wood, can be sanded and stained; industrially compostable; the colour tone varies slightly because of its natural origin.
- WoodJet – PLA+ with 20 % fine bamboo powder; not abrasive and printable with a brass nozzle.
- PolyWood™ – 100 % PLA with a foamed structure and a density of only 0.8 g/cm³; it looks like wood, and with no wood powder inside there is no risk of clogging.
- All three behave mechanically much like PLA and warp very little.
Print settings
- Nozzle: PolyWood™ about 200 °C, WoodJet about 210 °C; Timberfill® prints at a lower temperature – see its product page.
- Bed 55–60 °C, strong part cooling, no enclosure needed.
- Timberfill®: use a nozzle of at least 0.5 mm and print fast – at slow speeds the natural fibres may start to burn and jam the nozzle.
- Drying: 50–55 °C for 2–6 hours depending on the product.
Typical uses
Decorations, figurines, architectural models, boxes, gifts and props where a natural wooden look matters more than strength or heat resistance.
Pros and cons
- Pros: natural look, PLA-like printability, post-processing by sanding or staining (Timberfill®).
- Cons: heat resistance similar to PLA; fibre-filled filaments need larger nozzles; colour can vary between batches.
Frequently asked questions
Do wood filaments need a hardened nozzle?
Not the ones we stock: according to their manufacturers, Timberfill®, WoodJet and PolyWood™ are not abrasive. For Timberfill® use a nozzle of 0.5 mm or more.
Which wood filament is best for beginners?
PolyWood™ is the safest choice, because it contains no particles that could clog the nozzle and prints like regular PLA.
